USEFUL INFORMATION & FAQ’s
Why Wool?
Using Australian wool in children’s clothing makes a lot of sense. Australian Merino wool is luxuriously gentle against a baby’s skin, can ‘breathe’ (unlike synthetics such as polyester), and, due to its complex coil like fibres can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. Merino wool reacts to changes in body temperatures, keeping baby at a constant body temperature, warm when cold and releasing heat and moisture when hot. This limits heat rashes in children with sensitive skins.
Why use a woolbabe sleeping bag?
Babies often wake due to cold in the middle of the night after kicking off their covers. The woolbabe sleeping bag eliminates this problem as baby will be snug and secure in his/her sleep bag.
What are the benefits of a woolbabe sleeping bag?
Woolbabe uses only natural fibres. We do not use synthetics which do not ‘breathe’ and can irritate baby’s skin and cause over-heating. The fabrics are beautifully soft using Merino wool and wool/cotton blend fabrics. And of course, we use only Australian wool, and have them made here in Australia.
Is the Woolbabe sleep bag low fire danger?
Yes! Wool is a natural fire retardant. Woolbabe does not use flammable polyester in their garments, only wool & cotton.
Can blankets be used with a sleeping bag on extra cold Winter nights?
Yes, new guidlines from the SIDS & Kids organisation specify that a child in a sleeping bag can be securely covered with a blanket when weather conditions require it.
What should my baby wear under his/her woolbabe sleep bag?
It is important to avoid either over or under heating. The Winter weight sleeping bag is ideal for cooler conditions, worn over a simple cotton pyjama suit. In warmer weather a long sleeve or short sleeve top can be worn with a nappy under the lightweight sleeping bag. The best way to dress your baby is to follow what clothing/blankets you are comfortable sleeping with.
How do I care for my sleeping bag / baby wrap?
Woolbabe garments are fully machine washable. The more they are washed, the softer they become. Although the garment can be tumble-dried it is not recommended on a regular basis as it will reduce its longevity. They can be “finished” in the tumble dried on low as often as you like.
What is the ideal room temperature for my baby’s nursery?
It can be really difficult to work out the ideal nursery temperature. The best guide is to consider whether the heating, bedding and clothing would add up to a comfortable sleeping temperature for you.
